Fundamental Academic Skills Placement tests are required prior to enrolling in the first English or Mathematics course. See an IS&T academic advisor for assistance regarding these placement examinations. English and Writing To satisfy the English and writing requirements requires the completion of six hours of English and a technical writing course relevant to computer science (usually either ENGL 3980, ENGL 2400, or GET 2140). If you placed into ENGL 1150, then take ENGL 1150, ENGL 1160, and a technical writing course. If you placed into ENGL 1160, then take ENGL 1160, and three hours of English at the 2000 level or above, and a technical writing course. If your placement test indicates you placed out of the 1000-level composition requirements, then you may satisfy the requirement by taking any six hours of English at the 2000 level or above, and a technical writing course. Mathematics Either the math subscore on the ACT examination or the UNO Math Placement Exam (MPE) or Calculus Readiness Exam (CRE) is required for math placement. Many computer science students will be ready to take Calculus when they enter UNO, but a placement test result is still required. The mathematics necessary to satisfy the university's fundamental academic skills requirement will be met by satisfying the mathematics requirement for the undergraduate computer science degree. Public Speaking One of the courses SPCH 1110, SPCH 2120, SPCH 3120, SPCH 3130, or SPCH 3140 is required. |
