Undergradate Degree Distribution Requirements The distribution requirements provide the breadth of a liberal education. A total of 30 semester hours in the natural and physical sciences, humanities and fine arts, and the social and behavorial sciences are required, as summarized below. Detailed course listings are provided on the linked web pages. Natural and Physical Sciences — 12 semester hours Among the 12 hours you must complete a two-course sequence in biology, chemistry, or physics. You must also include a laboratory course in the same discipline. Humanities and Fine Arts — 9 semester hours Requirements in this category can be satisfied with courses from any level in art, English (other than those used to satisfy the fundamental academic skills requirement), foreign languages, music (other than laboratory courses), philosophy, religion, INST 2140, and speech (other than SPCH 1110, 1120, 3120, and 3140). Skill and technique courses may not be used to meet the humanities and fine arts requirements. CIST 3110, Information Technology Ethics, is a required course. Social and Behavioral Sciences — 9 semester hours Courses at any level in history, political science, sociology, psychology, and geography (except those geography courses listed in natural and physical sciences) may be used to satisfy the requirements in this area. |
