Graduate Transition Program

The curriculum for the MS in Computer Science requires a basic knowledge of computer fundamentals including mathematics, programming, data structures, computer architecture and operating systems. Credits for the courses in the transition program do not count toward the degree. Successful completion of these courses with a 'B' or better in each course is required to become an unconditionally admitted student. The transition courses are selected from the following list depending on an individual's background.

Mathematics

  • MATH 2030 — Discrete Mathematics (3 semester hours)

Programming and Data Structures

  • CIST 1400 — Introduction to Computer Programming (3 semester hours)
  • CSCI 1620 — Introduction to Computer Science II (3 semester hours)
  • CSCI 3320 — Data Structures (3 semester hours)

Computer Organization and Architecture

  • CSCI 3710 — Computer Organization and Assembly Language (3 semester hours)
  • CSCI 4350 — Computer Architecture (3 semester hours)

Operating Systems

  • CSCI 4500 — Operating Systems (3 semester hours)

Programming Languages and Compilers

  • CSCI 4220 — Programming Languages (3 semester hours)
  • CSCI 4830 — Introduction to Software Engineering (3 semester hours)
